Reynald PainIN2P3 Director
CNRS Research Director, Reynald Pain currently heads IN2P3, the French National Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics. With a doctorate in theoretical physics, he was recruited at CNRS in 1985 and joined the LPNHE in Paris. He then continued doing experiments at CERN in the Charm neutrino project and later at the LEP with the Delphi Detector. In 1991, he was appointed head of the LPNHE Delphi team and project Leader of the Delphi Outer detector. He later devoted part of his work to observational cosmology and spent two years at the University of Berkeley, where he participated in the birth of the Supernova Cosmology project. Back in France, he launched several international projects in supernova cosmology, and in 2006 enrolled the French teams in the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope project. From 2009 to 2014, he was director of LPNHE. Before being appointed as IN2P3 Director in December 2015, Reynald Pain was IN2P3 ʺAstroparticles and Neutrinos" Scientific Deputy Director.
